CARTOONING CHARACTERS

Learn the fun of creating unique cartoon characters. Students will expand their current abilities as they look at traditional cartooning techniques of proportion, positioning and perspective. Learn different artistic approaches that inspire creative thinking.

GRADES: 1st - 3rd

CRAZY HAIR PORTRAITS

Starting with a profile portrait, skills are developed to create a sculptural and artistic pompadour in this truly unique art class. Engineering skills are taught as hairstyles become more challenging. This is a great class for students to learn how one design idea explodes into another …and that first ideas can be changed!

PRINTMAKING AND POP-UP CARDS

Explore a variety of printing techniques that students can use to create a unique artwork. Learn how to create different types of printing plates; and how to use brayers, ink and other printing tools. As the holidays approach we will create special cards and once a pop-up card is made there is excitement to make MORE!

PAINTING WITH OIL PASTELS

In this class students will learn a painterly way to use oil pastels. This unique method of using oil pastels is a true “eye-opener” for anyone who discovers its’ special attributes. Invented in 1921, oil pastels (cray-pas) were designed with the purpose to open up a child’s creative mind.

PAINTING A SCIENCE LANDSCAPE

This exciting class will challenge our students to think about what is needed for man to survive in the first human habitat on Mars. Participants will need to include the many colony components that allow for survival. Students will also learn how to layer their landscape painting to put the elements into perspective.

GRADES: 1st - 3rd

SPOON PEOPLE

This FUN and CREATIVE class starts with a wooden spoon. Clay is added to form a face on the spoon’s back. With paper sculpturing techniques a body is added. All of this leads to a creative sculpture of a character who has a personality unique to the maker. These in-the-round sculptures usually become cherished keepsakes.
