#13051COMMUNITY GARDEN

Community Gardens are beneficial to the environment, the health and wellbeing of community members and build a greater feeling of community. We are also creating an opportunity for kids to learn and grow through gardening, engaging their natural curiosity and wonder.  The garden will be prepared by volunteers and the Geneseo Park District. All water will be provided by the City of Geneseo. Register at The Center to reserve your very own gardening space!

FEE: $30 per 10' x 10' plot

DATES: April - October  The garden opens April 15, 2021 weather permitting

  • As a plot renter, you are responsible for the maintenance and weeding of your plot and surrounding pathways at ALL TIMES. Herbicides (weed killers), insecticides, chemical fertilizers, animal poisons and NONORGANIC MATERIALS (including treated wood) ARE NOT ALLOWED in the Garden.
  • Please do not leave garbage or useless gardening materials in the garden.
  • Taking things from garden plots other than your own is considered theft. Do not ruin the gardening experience of others by picking or destroying items in their gardens. Report any suspicious or illegal activity to the Park District.
  • If you must abandon your plot for any reason please notify the Park District.
  • Pets are not allowed in the garden area.
  • The garden area is open from dawn until dusk, seven days a week.
  • Family members are welcome at the garden site. Please supervise young children so they do not disturb other plots.
  • Please conserve the use of water by mulching to reduce water evaporation. Please hand water - the use of sprinklers is not acceptable as it encourages weeds in the pathways.
  • Water will be available on site. Hooking up your garden hose to the coupler at the garden is allowed. If doing this please be considerate of other gardeners. Hoses are only allowed through designated walking areas and cannot be drug through plots. Gardeners must be present when their hose is hooked up to the water source. Rain barrel usage is encouraged.
  • Please dispose of weeds in designated compost areas ONLY. Do not bring any food waste from outside of the garden for composting. We would like to avoid a rodent problem.
  • Plot holders identified as non-complying to the above guidelines will be notified in writing and be given a 7-day grace period to clean, weed and maintain their plots.
  • The planting of trees and invasive plant species is NOT permitted. You will be asked to remove these items immediately.
  • Plants must be grown within the plot boundaries. No perennials plants allowed. Tall crops (sunflowers, trellised plants) may be grown, but should not shade another garden plot. CORN is not permitted.
  • Plastic mulch and plastic orange fences are not allowed.
  • All gardeners are responsible for providing their own tools, seeds, and plants.
  • Tilling will be done prior to the growing season.
  • Individual garden plots are to be used for growing vegetables and flowers for family use and not for commercial sales.
  • Each plot renter must clean and remove all items and plantings from their plot at the end of the season, no later than September 30th.
