Athletic Field

The Athletic Field is located on East North Street [1 block west of Community Center - 541 E. North Street].  The Athletic Field currently serves as the host to Geneseo Youth Football, Geneseo Middle School (GMS) 8th grade football, and Geneseo High School (GHS) Frosh-Soph tennis.  The Geneseo Park District runs youth sports programs such as flag football, tennis, and golf  at the Athletic Field.  The Geneseo Park District builds and maintains an ice rink on the tennis courts for 6 weeks beginning in January.

Besides  football games and tennis matches in the Fall, most common uses of the Athletic Field  include citizens exercising their dogs and cleaning up after them of course, an occasional game of tennis, skateboarders that ride a portable rail on the basketball court, a Geneseo Soccer Club practice, the Geneseo Park District staff mowing, a football player practicing field goal kicking, a group of adults congregate to play flag football, runners get a few laps in during good weather, a father teaches his child how to ride his/her bicycle, a growing “Relay for Life” event helps support cancer research, a Jack – O – Lantern Jog is held for youngsters…these are just a few examples of how the Athletic Field functions in our community.

The Athletic Field became part of the Geneseo Park District on June 1, 2000.  For many, the Old Athletic Field was a quick jog down from the Junior High under the direction of Elmer Reedy and/or JoAnne Gernant during P.E. class.  Many Geneseo Football alumni vividly remember moments from their legendary youth football days on the Athletic Field gridiron.
